Location Location Location

Selecting a location for your photo session is a big choice! Sometimes, as the photographer, I am asked to select a location based on client preferences but sometimes my clients ask if I can come to them. When my clients ask me to come to them, I always get a thrill out of the unknown. These sessions are usually in places that have significant meaning and are special to them. In fact, many of my clients are ranchers or own their own land, so having photo sessions in the comfort of their own space sometimes takes a little pressure off of the whole family.

I usually make it known that I am willing to travel for sessions and find that traveling is something that makes me feel like the best version of myself. This could be because sometimes I secretly think about selling everything and trying out the nomad lifestyle. I think it would suit our family well but instead I live vicariously through photo sessions at "destination" locations.

This particular photo session was on their family owned ranch. I was so happy about the opportunity to shoot somewhere new and different. The land offered many different ways to utilize the cloudy evening because there was harsh light and one part of their property was essentially the shape of a bowl that added great dimension! As sunset approached, we were able to hike up the side of the bowl and catch the last rays of light. The shots on the way up the hill happen to be my favorite photos from the session. There were tons of opportunities to manipulate depth and height, something I strive to do with natural elements instead of props.

Overall, I love choosing locations for my clients as well as trying out new locations of their choice. So, if you have a location that is special to you please don’t hesitate to share it with me! Count me in for an adventure!
